Friends of mine, if you take your Jiu-Jitsu seriously please check this guy out. Chris has become a friend and believe it or not, at this point of my training (over 30 years) I also consider him a training partner. We see each other several times a year and it's an all Jiu-Jitsu feast of technique, theory, strategy and insights - combining the teachings of two best fighters on the plantet: Relson in Rickson Gracie (listed in age order LOL). Take this to the bank... if you know me personally I will GUARANTEE this endorsement. Chris knows what he is doing.

So you think you know jiu-jitsu? Chris will ask you to do a move on him and you’ll go ‘Ha, I’ve got this!’. Then he stops it right in its tracks with a simple adjustment and leaves you all puzzled and confused. Then, in one sentence he will share a detail with you that turns out not just to be a detail but an essential part of the technique. Your first session with Chris is an experience that is reminiscent of my first roll with a jiu-jitsu guy after years of punching and kicking: when you feel and experience his jiujitsu, you will be hooked. That is... if you manage to come to terms with the fact you might have wasted years on the mat practicing techniques that don’t seem to work after all.

I had the chance to catch Chris Burns at a seminar held at my academy. His approach to self-defence changed my perspective on training. Eager to understand further, I then reached out for a few private sessions, as well as signing up to his closed group, with regular instructional to digest. His methodical and pragmatic approach is easy to digest and translate into movement. I thoroughly appreciated how Chris striped each movement back to the fundamental components, with concise and contextual-based explanations on why and when they would be applied. With a focus on concepts I have been able to apply what I learnt broadly across my training. Mostly, I appreciated the balance of being challenged while he remained patient with my limited knowledge.

I have known Chris for nearly 10 years. Originally he was my student, humbly learning Filipino Martial Arts from me. Over time our roles changed, and I became his student in Jiu Jitsu, at one point traveling an hour each way for private lessons. As a practitioner who trains primarily in Filipino and South East Asian weapon based martial arts, I had been conditioned to reject Brazilian Jiu Jitsu because "the last place you want to be is on the ground". What I found in Chris is someone who is knowledgeable in violence and considers things outside the scope of grappling arts. Chris made a believer of me, and I love to tell me colleagues that we'd often spend half the class on our feet. Chris demonstrates what happens when high altitude, driven be a solid work ethic, learns from arguably the greatest minds in the history of Jiu Jitsu. Chris is irreverent toward BS and incredibly respectful of practicality, and this make his Jiu Jitsu incredibly accessible to both beginners and veterans of the art, while being incredibly functional. I have made a point of seeking out the best to learn from in every art I train in. It is with that in mind that I am proud to call Professor Chris "Bones" Burns my Jiu Jitsu coach, and have him come and share his take on Rickson Gracie's insights with my students.

As a long time student of Chris Burns I can attest to his unrivalled knowledge of Rickson Gracies Jiujitsu system .Chris is also the foremost teacher of this methodology and looked to by not only myself ..but other black belts of the "Gracie System" to further our understanding and assist is to deliver it better to our students ... On a personal note to his character. Literally a man who will give you the shirt off his back I would recommend the investment in attending a seminar or taking a private lesson with Chris

Mind Blown every time! Whether I’m training with Chris Burns in person or watching his instructional’s online my mind is blown with his knowledge, attention to detail and quick effective solutions to the problems I’m having. He always has the answer I’m looking for that makes sense and actually works, I take it back to live sparring and it works like magic. If it’s Jiu-Jitsu you want that translates over to real life self defence and to the training room you’re in the right place, you’ve found the best.

So I'm presently at work and all of a sudden a student from the club I used to teach, came in for a chat after 6 months plus of no contact. He expressed that the way I taught was his preferred way versus the other teachers he's had so far and that what I had to teach was what he preferred to learn, i.e how to defend himself and not needing two working knees to do the "other" style of jiu jitsu. He gave me his contact details so that we can arrange private classes with him and his son and daughter as a result. Either I have the cult of personality thing down-pat or all the things you've shown me over the years is rippling out all the more. Just thought you might appreciate knowing this.

Chris Burns has a full grasp of Rickson Gracie Jiu Jitsu. I have trained with Kron and Rickson for at least 20 years and Chris has a way of translating the mystery that is RGJJ so that it is comprehensible. There is brilliance in simplicity. RGJJ is so simple it’s brilliant. Yet so brilliant I could never have learned the JJ movements unless Rickson shows the way. Chris is one of Rickson most knowledgeable Black belts who is showing us the way.

You simply wont find an instructor with the level of detail and articulation of master Rickson Gracie's Jiu-Jitsu like you will with Chris Burns.
Chris brings to the table the concepts of base and connection to such a precise degree in order to show that jiu-jitsu is more than moves. It's one thing to know the armbar; it's entirely different to know when you can properly apply an armbar.
"If you know the way broadly, you will see it in everything."
